Definition of Rituals:
the performance of ceremonial acts prescribed by tradition or by sacerdotal decree.  

Rituals are one of the biggest mysteries of human behavior. As humans, we tend to perceive ourselves as rational beings and assume that decisions we make are all guided through reasoning. However, in rituals, what we regard as significant lies in repeated and even mundane acts that do not guarantee any practical outcome. 

It is pointless and futile in the lens of rationality, yet from the earliest civilization and even up to the 21st century, rituals are still performed and ingrained in our culture.

Ironically, I was mesmerized by the very own pointless action that I thought and engaged myself with studying rituals.
